Are these “Teach in Asia” programs trustworthy?

I see postings all over the internet, on Craigslist, in local papers, on university bulletin boards, etc, all claiming there’s a huge need for English teachers in Asia.

Are these programs trustworthy? I’ve heard a few horror stories about people stuck in Korea/China with no plane ticket home, stuck in filthy housing, etc… Are they the exception?

It seems to me that with the huge amount of advertising done for these programs – SOMEONE is making money, and I’m sure at least one moneymaker will be the placement agencies. Is it at the expense of the teacher, or good for all involved?

I graduated 2 years ago with a BA in English & History and have had a hell of a time finding work – and am considering this path, but am not sure if it is wise. Ideas?

I would especially love to hear from anyone who has been involved with such a program or knows someone who has – even those who may have simply applied for one. Any good outcomes? Negative?

Thanks in Advance,
Workless BA in Texas.

What do you think about people who have children and ask for hand outs?

I was looking on craigslist in my city and there were MANY postings from mothers who wanted free stuff.

One wrote that she stayed home with her child and her husband didn’t make a lot of money a month and how she didn’t qualify for any assistance.

So she was asking for free clothes, formula, diapers, and other things.

Seriously, if people cannot afford to FEED their child, why are they having them in the first place?

And if these people are so poor then they DO qualify for assistance such as WIC.

And I think she could find a job and help support her child if she needed to. She could find someone to watch her child for a small fee. Yeah she may not be with her kid 24/7 but at least he would have FOOD to eat!!

I know sometimes people are down on the luck, but this is bad parenting.

What is wrong with people??? I find it rude to ask other people to pay your unplanned pregnancy, how irresponsible!

Get a massage with a happy ending?

I was looking on craigslist for a good place to get a massage. One of the postings said “No happy endings” What that mean?
Has anyone had a massage with a “happy ending”?

I am moving to New York in 2 mths, should I apply to postings that I find now or wait until I get there?

Is it a waste of time to send my resume to postings from Monster.com and Craigslist? Will it be easier to find a job once I actually live there? Do potential employers even look at resumes from other states?
I am looking for a job in retail as an assistant buyer. I am available to go up to interview, but, I wot be moving there until August.

How can I get lots of people to come to a show in NYC?

I run various shows at different venues in New York City, including comedy and music shows. I have no problem getting great talent, but I’d like to build up more of an audience at the shows. I’d rather not send people out of the street with flyers and stuff, and craigslist event postings don’t usually help much. Does anyone have any new or interesting ideas for attracting an audience to a show in New York City?

how do I put multiple postings on craigslist.org?

I want to put an item for sale in several cities, but it doesn’t allow it.

Manhattan Neighborhoods – 10011 area?

Just going through the craigslist postings – If I am looking for a room in the 10011 zip code area, would that fall under West Village, Chelsea, or Greenwich Village? Also, it seems as though there is some overlap between these areas. Are there clearly defined boundaries, or is it loosely defined?

Is there a way to search over all of craigslist, not just regionally?

I want to search all postings in the USA not just my local area. I can’t seem to find out where to go for that. Thanks
