Looking for English Language Expat info in Tokyo, Japan?

I recently relocated to Tokyo, Japan from New York city and I have
been trying to find English language web resources similar to what I used on a regular basis in New York. I often used craigslist to find activities and for online dating in New York and haven’t been able to find a similar English language site with a large user base in Tokyo. I’ve found sites but they have very small user bases. What I am looking for is where on the web I can connect with the English speaking expat community to meet people, find dates, find a sports team/league similar to www.zogsports.com, find a running group similar to New York Road Runners http://www.nyrrc.org/ and where I can find
classified ads for things like buying a used bicycle.

I am moving to New York in 2 mths, should I apply to postings that I find now or wait until I get there?

Is it a waste of time to send my resume to postings from Monster.com and Craigslist? Will it be easier to find a job once I actually live there? Do potential employers even look at resumes from other states?
I am looking for a job in retail as an assistant buyer. I am available to go up to interview, but, I wot be moving there until August.

Need somewhere cheap to stay in New York (or area) for 3-4 months. Suggestions?

I plan on doing an internship in New York City-area for 3-4 starting at the end of May and will be there, more than likely, until the end of August. I need somewhere to stay, but can only go $650/month max.

Is this even possible? What are some areas relatively close? Other suggestions? I already looked into hostels and it’s just not cost-efficient for me. I tried looking on Craigslist for temporary housing/sublets but it’s too early to get a good idea.

Temporary Housing (weekly) in New York?

I have family coming over to New York during x-mas. They need a place to stay for about 2 weeks since my small studio apartment in Nassau is not going to be able to host them. Where can I look for temporary rentals by the week or by the month?

Please don’t suggest www.craigslist.com since I already know that and wouldn’t be asking this question if craigslist can resolve my question.

California VS New York-Expensive?

Both California and New york are Expensive-What do you think

In California especially the bay area-A NICE Stuido apt would cost 1100-1200$,You can find a deal on craigslist for $750-$800.+ you need a car to get around thats easily atleast $100 a mont-that is if you buy an old car-money down.-So youre spedning MINIMUM-$900

In New York you can find a cheap apartment in queens,brooklyn-studio for $900-$1000.But you dont need a car-you just need a $70 bus pass that will get you unlimited rides on the bus and the subway.

So what do you think???.
New york is really not that expensive compared to Califronia. But it is expensive from someone moving from say Kansas,Vegas. But people moving from California shouldnt find NYC Expensive-Right?
What do you think???
