Does anyone know of any open source social networking software? (something like facebook.com)?
I’m part of an organization that has had many members over the years and I’m looking for a way to set up a website that will allow all members to create profiles, upload photos, etc. and immediately link up with one another. Something similar to social networking websites but this one allows everyone to automatically connect with one another since it will be limited to members of the organization.
How do I start networking and meeting people with facebook?
I have a myspace and have friends on it but just got the facebook. However, how do I start adding people from my school without looking like a creep and then run into them on campus. I do want to meet new people but I dont know too many people at my school. I just don’t want to add random people. Transferring to my university from JC makes it harder. I graduated h.s. in 01, before all this social networking craze and not too many people my graduting year are on them. The people I actually talk to in class or at school are not on facebook.

I have been struggling to keep my new computer business afloat, Does anyone have any good Ideas?
I am looking for easy cost free Ideas to ad to my computer business. I am mobile tech service, upgrades, repair,networking,custom built systems, etc….Currently added personal item sales on ebay and craigslist. My first year was rough and I dumped a bundle into advertising, I’ve had to do other work not related to my business just to keep it alive. This redirects my focus away from my business. I would like to keep focused on my own business.

What kind of social networking / community discussion site should I start?
I have a large university’s bandwidth (1000 megabytes per second), I’m willing to buy an external hard drive or two if necessary (several hundred gigabytes of storage), I am creative and have a lot of experience in web design and graphics, and I have worked with PHP/MySQL. I also have friends who can help me code something, and I know people who could help me build a community and user base.
What can I make that college students would use? A Yahoo! Answers type site? Something similar to Rate My Professors? Facebook/Myspace? Something like Google Docs/Spreadsheets, except with some kind of commenting/discussion system?
Let me know if you guys have any ideas. Thanks!

Take the kitten to the Humane Society!?
I was just reading a question and an answerers said to take the kitten to a humane society. WHY? Now I love the animale shelter, that’s where I got my kitten but seriously, around this time, most of the kittens that get brought in get KILLED. Yes, there’s just too many. Recommending that you take a kitten to the humane society is just an easy way for people to get rid of kittes without getting thier own hand and conscious dirty but in reality you’re doing the same thing. So what do I recommend, adopt the kitten yourself if you can, make sure it goes to a good house, via friends, networking or craigslist. But if you send it to a animal shelter, I thik it’s a 50/50 chance the kitten gets put down. Just think about that before you recommend people send thier new kittens to the animal shelters.
Humane societies might not kill animals themselves but I’ve always heard that they do move them to kill shelters when they get overwhelmed. I have nothing these shelters myself, actually I priase the work that they do but people still rather believe in if you see no evil, you hear no evil, then you do no evil, not true.

If I presented my website through a business plan to Angel Investors, do I have to patent my idea beforehand?
A few of my friends and I are in the works for a social networking website like facebook.com that is geaerd towards a small local crowd. However, we have created a unique and effective method of advertising and find our system to be unique.
As we will be looking for Angel Investors, we will propose and reveal our entire site in a business proposal and was wondering what is the right process of doing this?
Should I be patenting this idea before I let the word out on everything? How much does patenting cost, and what is the turnaround for approval?
I find that we are tight on money. As we have already invested in a high grade server for our business, we may not even be able to get a patent done if the process is to costly. However, is this a necessary step or simply a recomended step?
