Can my high school legally suspend students who post pictures of themselves drinking on Facebook?

Recently, my high school in the state of Missouri, has been suspending kids for posting pictures of them drinking alcohol or doing something else inappropriate (luckily I don’t use Facebook or any of those other sites). The pictures were taken off of school property, but the school is arguing that since the people’s profiles have the schools name on it they have the right to suspend them. Do they? Or could they end up losing a lawsuit?

Illinois Sheriff Sues Craigslist Over Sex Ads

Cook County, Illinois’ sheriff has filed a lawsuit against Craigslist, saying the popular online classifieds site not only allows the solicitation of prostitution but has actively created “the largest source of prostitution in America.” (March 5)
