Are these “Teach in Asia” programs trustworthy?

I see postings all over the internet, on Craigslist, in local papers, on university bulletin boards, etc, all claiming there’s a huge need for English teachers in Asia.

Are these programs trustworthy? I’ve heard a few horror stories about people stuck in Korea/China with no plane ticket home, stuck in filthy housing, etc… Are they the exception?

It seems to me that with the huge amount of advertising done for these programs – SOMEONE is making money, and I’m sure at least one moneymaker will be the placement agencies. Is it at the expense of the teacher, or good for all involved?

I graduated 2 years ago with a BA in English & History and have had a hell of a time finding work – and am considering this path, but am not sure if it is wise. Ideas?

I would especially love to hear from anyone who has been involved with such a program or knows someone who has – even those who may have simply applied for one. Any good outcomes? Negative?

Thanks in Advance,
Workless BA in Texas.

Adsense – I have been getting more hits with less money?

I have been getting an increase in hits, but I have been making less money. I haven’t done any thing to increase the amount of hits. I have a English Grammar site, and I get more hits when at school time.
I have also been gettng less per hit, and a lower % of hits. I have been getting almost 1/3 less money then before.
Does anyone have any ideas?
I didn’t change anything on the site.

Looking for English Language Expat info in Tokyo, Japan?

I recently relocated to Tokyo, Japan from New York city and I have
been trying to find English language web resources similar to what I used on a regular basis in New York. I often used craigslist to find activities and for online dating in New York and haven’t been able to find a similar English language site with a large user base in Tokyo. I’ve found sites but they have very small user bases. What I am looking for is where on the web I can connect with the English speaking expat community to meet people, find dates, find a sports team/league similar to www.zogsports.com, find a running group similar to New York Road Runners http://www.nyrrc.org/ and where I can find
classified ads for things like buying a used bicycle.

Why is it that noone speaks English these days?

Craigslist, Ebay, Yahoo Answers (apparently) , seem to be infested with people who cannot type English. Im no scholar, but when I need to, I can speak & type English. Is Lexus at fault?
Im still look for penguin.
So, Is Lexus at fault?

Befuddled by teh sarcasm, Yah, I think so.
“I find it unfair of you to accuse others of being unable to “speak and type” English, while your own grammar is flawful and your spelling atrocious!”

Nice runon speedy.
“First, Your English needs
plenty of help. (Hmmm)
Secondly, I agree with your
observation(s).. (Incorrect use of an Adverb?)
But……… (But……….)
Why do you criticize others
when you need Phonics yourself?” (Now, do I need Phonics or Hooked on Phonics? I think you meant Phonetics, but it is still improperly used.)

brains cells at work… (Must’ve been sleeping)
I would answer you if I could understand your grammatically incorrect question. (Well, I shall see you in sentence structure 101. Save a seat for me!)
