I am trying to buy a car locally from this guy on craigslist. Can you help me on how the process is to deal with the DMV paperwork or how to transfer the car under my name? does he have to be with me when i go to the DMV. He said the car is registeres till Jan 2007. thanks for the help. I’m new to this car thing.
Some guy tried to scam me on Craigslist. Sell me a car using a bogus escrow company. You know the scam. Saw the scam immedietly, didn’t lose anything, but you’d think someone would want to put the guy in jail.
Local police aren’t interested. FTC apparently doesn’t even bother calling back on crimes less that 50K? Is this the perfect crime or is there ANYONE out there who wants to shut these scam artists down?
Hey! Thanks for the great responses to my question. I have looked at car max, cars direct, auto trader, e-bay and craigslist. Most do not have cars that old. I realize that these are old cars but I have sentimental reasons for finding them. Where did they all go?

I want to buy a used CL. I want a car with (relatively) low mileage (under 100K would be nice – but up to 140K is acceptable.) I want to spend under $10,000. I know there are cars that fit my specifications out there, but whenever I find them, they’ve already been sold!

I know absolutely nothing about amps, and am looking on craigslist and see a Rockford Fosgate 360 II (180 * 2) for $98, and a Virtual Reality Sound Labs 4-Channel Car Amplifier for $40 with a lot of stuff I don’t understand. I just had 2 (sorry if I get these names wrong) QB Quarts up front and to Dynotechs in the rear installed in my car but they don’t have enough juice to play a clear sound.

CarMax is overpriced for cars in my price range. I’ve looked there as well. I actually got my last car there, but from what I can tell, they mark up the prices on their cars quite a bit.
I’m looking for a car that’s not salvaged title – that’s not listed by dealer. Do people not own their cars anymore? Why are all ads on craigslist, sjmercury, autotrader, etc. etc. by dealers almost exclusively? I live in the SFO bay area and would much appreciate advice on how to buy a “FSBO” for sale by owner second hand car.

Someone is using a Yahoo email address in an attempt to get me to send him $9,800 for a fictional Camaro. He claims the car is in Sweden, and that I need to send funds and he will send the car. He claims Craigslist is guaranteeing the transaction. Craigslist does not get involved in any transactions. Is there anyone at Yahoo that could work with authorities to catch this guy? I know this happens every day, but I’ve got a live scammer on the line right now!

I have this great old classic 1986 Lincoln Town Car. I’ve run ads to sell it but haven’t really got any hits. It needs work if it’s going to stay in running order, which brings down the cost anyone would want to pay for it. But there is a ton of stuff on it that is worth something piece by piece (leather seats in perfect condition, for example). Is it possible for me to sell out the parts myself, or do I have to be able to take them off the car and deliver them to a shop to do that? Any advice would be helpful and very much appreciated!
Side note: Here is the ad I am currently running on craigslist just trying to trade the car for anything else. It’s got pictures, so maybe someone can tell me if this looks like it’s worth anything.
