I don’t think that there would be any rate difference… but yes images do catch attention better than texts so you can gain more in that sense…
About reaching $100 I don’t think that you should be worried… You have made good start and clicks that you recieve each day will grow with time… be positive… just keep yourself busy in add more of good contents and bring in more visitors…

It depends on the amount paid for the image ads whether per click or per CPM. When the CPM ads were first introduced, the minimum CPM then was $2. Then it fell down to minimum of $0.20 I think
It is not wise to select only image ads to be shown on your site because not many advertisers use image ads. And if you do image ads only, you’d be showing a lot of PSA (public service ads) where you don’t get paid.
Better to use both image and text ads. Adsense will show what is the highest price for your site anyway — if there’s an image ad that pays $0.20 per click but a text ad is paying $0.50 per click (assuming smart pricing has been taken into account), Adsense will show the higher paying ad no matter what format.
Is it normal for a blog to only earn $20 in one year? YES
Blogs are meant to be read. People come to your blog to read your posts — and those people are highly likely to ignore your ads. It also depends on the type of blog you have and the audience you attract.
The sites that do well with Adsense are those whose audience are looking for ways to spend the money. Think of a review site — the visitors these sites attract are those actively looking to buy the products, and they are more likely to click on the ads especially if the ads are from vendors where they can buy the product
Or my site where I already earn $50 by 6 am every morning (I earn 5 digits a month). My site attracts people looking for ways to make money and start a business, and the ads are about business opportunities.
If you are attracting more visitors, you might be better off with CPM ads particularly banners. Adsense is obviously not working for you.
One cardinal rule of Adsense is that not all sites are a right fit for the program. Blogs are hardly good candidates for Adsense.
