The Facebook Effect with Mark Zuckerberg

[Recorded: July 21, 2010] The growth and impact of Facebook is mind blowing, even for an industry that considers “overnight success” to be a long-range goal. Founded in a Harvard dorm room on February 4th 2004 by 19-year-old Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook announced in July 2010 that had it reached the milestone of 500 million registered users. Facebook isn’t just an American success story, most users are outside of the United States and half of them log on every day. Facebook has already made an irreversible impact on society, marketing and politics — even facilitating political protests around the world in countries such as Colombia and Iran. Facebook is also changing our sense of identity: “I am on Facebook; therefore I am.” Longtime Fortune magazine technology writer David Kirkpatrick chronicles the rise of Facebook in one of the most anticipated books of 2010: “The Facebook Effect: The Inside Story of the Company That Is Connecting The World.” Kirkpatrick gained the full cooperation of Zuckerberg and his team in writing the book. The Facebook Effect is the first historically authoritative account of how a simple idea became one of the dominant ways to communicate on the Internet. As part of its Net@40 series, the Computer History Museum is proud to present this one-of-a-kind evening of fascinating dialogue between Zuckerberg and Kirkpatrick on the past and future of Facebook. The moderator is Guy Raz, the Peabody award-winning host of NPR’s All Things Considered.

Google Adsense Abuse by Quickpwn.com against Dev-Team YellowSnow QuickPwn Jailbreak

blog.iphone-dev.org is the real website for Quickpwn and Yellowsn0w. A cybersquatter came in and registered the domain quickpwn.com and the plastered the entire site with Google Adsense. He also registered the Twitter name Quickpwn. He does not work with the development team at all so it appears he is doing this to get paid off the work of others. The real Dev-team has contacted him and he assures them he is “helping them”. This site needs to be stopped because it’s misleading website visitors, Google Adwords people paying for placement and most importantly, not providing credit to the actual developers of the jailbreaking software. What can you do to stop this? Contact Google Adsense at www.google.com and report quickpwn.com for violation. He is “encouraging clicks” by plastering 85% of the site with advertising. You can also give a shout out to the real development team at http and on Twitter at @iphone_dev and let them know you appreciate their hard work on the iPhone!

Introduction to “Facebook”?

I have heard a lot about the latest hype “Facebook” found at www.facebook.com. I heard it was a hybrid of myspace, blogging, and instant messaging. When I tried to sign up, it asked for my company name or school and also needed an invite. However when I type in the school and or business it gave me random names I didnt see before. I would really appreciate anyone who could give me an introduction to this service.

Please include:
-How do you sign up if you dont know the people supposedly in your school/business.
-Once signed in, can you access all users of facebook or only those of your school/business.
-Is there any other way to sign up.
-Any noteable features of Facebook.

Thank you very much.
