  1. I’d go to craigslist like you’ve done and also would check with some of the local colleges like NYU(in the student union) to see if there are any sublet postings for the summer.

Another good source in NYC is the Villiage voice which is a free weekly paper.

For under 800 will be tough in Manhattan prime. But, this will depend on where in Manhattan you would like to live. Uptown Manhattan will be easier to find a roommate sublet for under 800 vs Villiage.

In any event, after living in NYC for about 10 years, I’d go for a simple roommate share in someone apartment. You will find that you spend very little time(only to sleep and get changed) in your apartment and will typically be out.

Me, used to sell buildings in NYC and a long time resident of Manhattan.

Still in the real estate business as a lender and working on a 1031 exchange web site http://www.nnnstore.com soon to be http://www.1031store.com

  2. NYU rents dorm rooms for the summer. Pratt in Brooklyn does as well, but NYU is a much better location. Apts in Queens are a lot cheaper than Manhattan
