You learn things about other people that you probably shouldn't know. A lot of my friends have gotten upset because of things they saw on facebook. It sucks that your friends seemed to have abandoned you. If they are not replying to you after multiple attempts to contact them, I think they must be avoiding you. If they still want to be friends, they should at least make some sort of effort too. My advice would be to make some new friends and post all kinds of pictures of you having fun too. Give them the cold shoulder. If they come asking what's up, tell them you've been busy with new friends from out of town or somewhere, you can make it up if you have to.
