Not only is it a great way to keep up with friends,it's also good for keeping up with teachers. I had an english teacher who sent the class updates and posted homework links on there. Finally if you're the type(like me) that hates calling people, it's a great way to talk to people without hearing their voices and wasting minutes. In fact, I would say it is one of the best ways to reconnect with old friends because the forum is fairly closed - ie, you have to have a valid .edu address and people must be recognized by you in order to view your personal information. However, it can be addictive; I have friends who spend hours a day on Facebook. I think it is like any other website or game; it can be a great tool so long as you practice restraint and use it in moderation. After you've had it for a while you tend to completely ignore it. I used to be addicted to facebook and now I don't even think of "Facebook People" as real human beings anymore. That being said, yes, it is good for keeping in touch with people. My advice to you is if that you're worried about wasting valuable academic time (like I am right now) wait until the current semester ends (if it hasn't already for you) and then re-open your account. http://www.karuthu.uni.cc It’s addictive for about the first few weeks. I have spent many hours on it. BUT, that being said, I also find it to be a really great way to keep in touch with my friends from other schools!
