Is it worth it for a blog or only for a site that gets tons of hits?

Traffic is a factor, but not only the main indicator. Success with Adsense depends on the type of content you have – some content attract visitors looking for other information which they may find in your Adsense ads. It also depends on the positioning of your ads and site layout, including colors (e.g. should you blend the ads with the look of the page or make it standout). Then there is the unknown factor called smart pricing, which is not understood clearly outside of Googleplex.
The only way you can find out is to experiment and see if it works with your blog. Experiment with the positioning, colors, ad formats to see what works best.

If you get lots of hits, then YES it's worth it! The money made though DOES get taxed, and you have to fill out forms and stuff, obviously, but if you know people are visiting your site/blog/whatever, then Adsense is a good way to make some extra cost. Make sure to use some design and place the adsense to where the viewers eye will be directed. Some sites can generate 1000s and 1000s of dollars per day.
