Being in marketing myself I can speak pretty knowledgable on this topic. You'll need a STRONG understanding of basic math skills (addition, subtraction, division). In addition, you'll need a good grasp on stats. It's important to be able to tell a client that by choosing this advertising method they will reach 86% of their target market. That's very important. It's also important to be able to calculate ROI (return on investment) on certain types of advertising. If you're going down that road you'll need to be focused on internet advertising in addition to all traditional methods (radio, yellow pages, tv, direct mail, dispay, vertical, etc, etc). Good Luck and let me know if you need any help.

Not much past college algebra and maybe business calculus. You just need to know how to peddle crap to different groups of people.
