My parents do not want me to get a Facebook because I have a busy schedule and it would be a distraction. I am responsible but they don't know that! They also think its really dangerous but it really is so much safer than most social networks and it has all of those safety features and everything! They are strict parents please help!
With facebook, your profile can only be seen by people that you say can see it. That means, unless you start accepting pedophiles as your friend, you will be completely safe on there. Just make sure you set your privacy settings so that only friends can see your profile.
As a distraction, trust me, you get very sick of facebook if you are on it all the time – I used to be on all the time and after about three weeks, I couldn't go on it for about six months.
Other than that, just try to show your parents that you are mature enough to use social technology sensibly.

Facebbok/MySpace are so much of a distraction that in 10 years time, there will be a load of 20-somethings serving up burgers or pizzas in a fast food joint realizing that if only they had concentrated on their studies while at school, they could have been working in a cushy office job
