How to review Facebook instant message logs for an offline friend?

When im on facebook instant messaging, i can only bring up instant messaging box of online friends. Is there a way i can bring up a box of an offline friend so i can view the instant messaging logs? Is there another way i can view these logs if my friend is offline?
